One method of protection - makes it out of Stainless Steel - albeit at about 6 times the price of PVC

As you might expect, permanently installed instruments and pieces can be vulnerable to abuse such as attack and theft unless the site is protected.

Most bingbangbong items can be upgraded to provide increased levels of protection against theft and vandalism. Some, such as the PVC Batonkas which are recommended for non-vulnerable areas, can be recreated from more robust materials. They are beautiful also, but very expensive.

Our instruments generally are much, much stronger than the use requires, simply because material and construction used to deliver extreme weatherproofing inherently provides such robustness. Unless otherwise indicated, bingbangbong warrants fitness for use as sound play and sensory items only.

Many instruments are made from high grade aluminium or Stainless steel. Stainless steel is in global demand, particularly from emerging economies and prices rise on an almost daily basis - it is expensive to buy and is becoming moreso. It is also difficult to work so we subcontract our Stainless welding work to trusted fabricators with whom we have a close working relationship.

Stainless Throughout

The use of stainless steel and other metals in abuse-resistant pieces is intended to provide protection against casual attack and general long-term use by the public, it also provides supreme resistance against the weather. The tubular structure of many pieces offers optimum integral structural strength

Powdercoating on aluminium provides a coloured layer that is protective against wear and tear and aluminium corrosion, ALL B3 tubes undergo an extra preparatory technical step to make them optimally suitable for external use. If the paint gets chipped the metal underneath is still protected.

The coloured finish is tough, similar to an automobile finish. Standard powdercoated colours have a 'Florida one year guarantee' which means that they can endure Florida UV exposure for one year. The equivalent in UK exposure is approximately 5-7 years, after this time, the paint colour may fade slightly, and is to be expected. It will not interfere with the functionality of the instrument.

Security Solutions include:

  • Custom made stainless support structures
  • All stainless hardware
  • Adapted stainless fixings and fittings.
  • Nuts requiring special tools to undo
  • Nuts fixed in place using a chemical weld
  • Nuts' edges ground away
  • Nuts that spin
  • Shear nuts
  • and more

The aim is to make it as difficult as possible for the casual vandal or thief to damage or steal the items unless they come with tools that are appropriate for the job. If they do come 'tooled up' using the same types of tools I would use to undo or even just to cut through elements, then I am afraid that there is nothing more can be done in preparation.

Vandal 'resistant' is NOT vandal 'proof'. No absolute warranty or assurance against vandalism or theft is given, nor should one be inferred, a determined vandal or thief will succeed.
